Houston, Stanwood and gamble Co. boiler

This Houston, Stanwood and Gamble Company boiler was located in Vass, North Carolina and was used to power our Bates Corliss engine. This boiler was pushed into the swamp by a TD-24 International Dozer that I had stopped from pushing the engine into the swamp in 2002. After locating the 12,500 pound boiler, I had to come up with a plan to remove it. There was no way to get a truck to it, so I built a winch box for the from of my skid steer and my wife and I winch for 2 days to get it out.

Once it made it home, we built an axle to be able to move the boiler around. The boiler was pressure washed, descaled. primed with red oxide primer, than painted with black enamel to preserve it. 

 I made forms for these 1100 pound pillars from shipping crates.
